SAN ANGELO — When troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety searched through a kitchen in a San Angelo residence during a narcotics bust Wednesday, the "white crystal substance" they found in the pantry wasn't salt, according to an arrest affidavit filed Nov. 30.

DPS officials executed a search warrant Nov. 28, 2018 in the 1200 block of Joseph Lane, a residence in San Angelo's PaulAnn neighborhood, where they discovered 14 bags containing a controlled substance, according to the affidavit.

"A white crystal substance" was found in "four baggies" hidden in a kitchen cabinet, and "three baggies" in a kitchen pantry, according to the affidavit.

"Also located in the kitchen pantry were seven plastic bags of Carne Seca de Res (beef jerky) with one vacuum sealed bag concealed with each bag containing a white crystal substance each," according to the affidavit.

During a preliminary test, a deputy with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Department noted the substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Law enforcement officials seized a total of 1,280 grams (2.82 pounds) of suspected methamphetamine from the residence, as well as "cellophane packaging material, digital scales, other drug paraphernalia, bulk US currency, and narcotics sales ledgers," according to the affidavit.

Troopers with DPS arrested Brenda Marie Rumbaugh, 27, and Juan Gabriel Tambunga Sr., 39, and charged both with the manufacture, delivery, or possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, a first degree felony.

Both Rumbaugh and Tambunga were held in Tom Green County jail in lieu of a $20,000 bond each, and both bonded out Thursday, Nov. 29.
